Dear Western States Volunteers,
This year’s Western States run is being held on Saturday June 27th and Sunday June 28th. Our aid station will be caring for the runners from about 7:00 p.m. Saturday until 9:15 a.m. Sunday. Please arrive for the briefing meeting at 6p.m. on the Saturday the 27th. We have a large group of people helping and minimal car parking spaces so if you could car pool it would be great. It is also dangerous driving home after a night of no sleep with no one in the car to help you stay awake. If you are not going to make it after all, let me know. Stars and Stripes will be our aid station theme this year. If you have anything patriotic, please bring it. It will be great for decoration and spirit. Hopefully everyone can get some sleep at one time or another throughout the night. Be sure to bring your sleeping bag and pillow. We would like to ask a $5 donation to help pay for the food that you will be eating throughout the night and into the morning. We make bacon, sausage, smoothies, pancakes and much more that you will be snacking on and this donation will help pay for it. Western States has a rule that they don’t pay for the volunteer food.
Other things you might consider bringing are.
Ice chest, to store ice. If you have one.
If everyone brings ice chest we will have plenty of room to store the ice we receive.
Popup awning for shade it can get very hot on Saturday afternoon. If you have one.

POTLUCK DISH
If you would like to join us for a run in the afternoon, we will try to head out around 2:00 p.m. Our annual potluck will be at 6:00 p.m. We will do our briefing and sign-up sheets then. Please bring a dish to share. I will explain how things happen over the course of the evening and will hand out programs, t-shirts and Breakfast tickets at the briefing. I will also pass around a sign-up sheet for volunteers to take shifts doing different jobs. Runners usually don’t start to come through our aid station until around 7:00 p.m. or as late as 9:00 p.m.
Also attached is a map how to get there:
Take Hwy 80 out of Sacramento to Auburn. Once in Auburn Take Elm exit. The exit horse-shoes to the right. At the stop sign or light turn left. You will turn left again at the next light/ El Dorado. Stay on El Dorado. It will turn into Hwy 49 as you leave town. About 5 miles after you leave town you will see the river on your right. Hwy 49 turns and crosses the river to Cool. If you don’t turn right you will end up in Forest Hill. Our Aid Station is across from a rock quarry, about 3 or 4 miles after you cross the river. You will need to pull through the gates on your right. I’m not sure how many cars we can cram into our aid station area. So if any one can car pool I would recommend it. It takes 2 to 2 ½ hours to get there from Modesto. I plan on leaving town at 8:30, we will need volunteers to lay out the land for the aid station at noon, if you want to come and help with set up meet us at the Home Depot on Carpenter Rd. at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Let me know you plan to follow us up so we don’t leave without you.
I look forward to getting together for a night of fun. If you have any questions, my home phone is 524-7110 and my cell is 209-480-8447
On behalf of the Western States organization and myself we can’t thank you enough!
See ya soon, Heidi Ryan
