Take an inspiring trip to Skid Row!
Skid Row and inspirational don’t usually go in the same breath, but you won’t want to miss this special night! For our 9th annual Modesto Marathon Movie & Wine Night, sponsored by Rabobank, we’ve chosen the newly released documentary Skid Row Marathon. When a criminal court judge starts a running club on LA’s notorious Skid Row and begins training a motley group of addicts and criminals to run marathons, lives begin to change. Skid Row Marathon follows four runners as they rise from the mean streets of LA to run marathons around the world, fighting the pull of homelessness and addiction at every turn. Their story is one of hope, friendship, and dignity.
Director Mark Hayes and his producer wife Gabi Hayes will be on hand for a Q&A following the film.
In addition to the film, this fun night features food from UNO Pizzeria & Grill and Fuzio Universal Bistro, wine from E.&J. Gallo and Barefoot wineries, a silent auction and drawings for fabulous prizes. The event is put on by the ShadowChase Running Club as a fund-raiser for the Teens Run Modesto program in which area youth are taught how to train for and run the Modesto Marathon.
Those attending Movie & Wine Night will receive a commemorative wine glass as well. Doors open at 4 p.m., movie at approximately 6. Tickets are $25, $10 under 21, $30 at the door, and available at The State Box Office, 527-4697, www.thestate.org.
