It is with deep regret that we feel that this year’s Riverbank Run for the Cheese must be run virtually rather than in person. This difficult decision was made in the interest of the health and safety of the race participants as well as the many volunteers who help to put on the event. The new Delta variant of Covid is seriously impacting our community, with our current local rates of cases & hospitalizations approaching previous highs. In early June, when we decided we could hold the race, the rates of Covid-19 cases were at all-time lows. Recently up to 25% of Riverbank High School’s students have been quarantined. During this past week we have learned of five Covid-related deaths of volunteers’ family members.
Please be assured that all registrants will receive a race shirt and a participant medal. They will be available for pick up at the Galaxy Theatre east side parking lot on Thursday & Friday, October 7th & 8th from 4-6pm, and on race day Saturday, October 9th from 8-10 am. There will also be some wine glasses and other goodies to be given away. If you cannot come at these times, please contact Bruce Edwards at bwecoach@gmail.com to set up a convenient time. I live close to Galaxy Theatre. It is on public streets so anyone who chooses to can run it on their own time.
We are very sorry that this will not be the race that we all had looked forward to. Hopefully next year we can resume our traditional event, with all of the trimmings that make it special…the food spread, photo booth, face painting, & kids’ fun run.
Thank you for the support you have given our race. Please know that all profits from it help support the RHS Cross Country program and other local cross country programs designated by Shadow Chase Running Club.
